Free Summer Concerts held at the Esplanade Park Bandstand with the largest dance floor in the country,
its the Capitola Beach. Bring a picnic dinner or dine at one of the cafes' along the beach.
Seating is on the lawn, seawall, seawall benches or bring a beach chair and sit on
the beach. Wear a warm jacket, since evenings are cool on the beach. These
Summer musical events draw a great crowd of all ages, where
dancing on the beach to great music is a locals
favorite year after year. The 2011

Wharf to Wharf Race!
The famous scenic six-mile classic race, with forty live bands, the throngs of festive spectators.
Starting at the Santa Cruz Wharf at 8:30am on July 24th, 2011 and ending in Capitola Village at the Wharf

The race opens with a dash down Beach Street, in Santa Cruz; passing the Ferris Wheel, roller coaster
and merry-go-round of the world famous Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Runners then cross the
San Lorenzo Bridge and loop around the Yacht Harbor to Twin Lakes Beach.
Turning inland the course winds through Schwann Lake Wildlife
Sanctuary before breaking back to the ocean bluffs
at Pleasure Point. Ending at the Capitola
Wharf and the quaint little beach
village of Capitola
by the sea.

Good live music brings in crowds. A patio overlooking the beach with smoking and drinking
turns off many. A decidedly older crowd stays inside and buggies big time! For some
its a really fun place to watch people and hear live tunes. The food is not the
attraction here. Only one bathroom so the lines are long. If you are
sensitive to smoke you may have a problem here.
Margaritaville

Live DJs on the weekend, Margaritaville attracts a young crowd. Strong drinks, a good view
of the river and a bit of the beach. The music is loud for some tastes and fun for
some who want to meet the opposite sex. There is plenty of room for dancing.
Shadowbrook

(Friday, 4-6pm) Considered a Santa Cruz County and Capitola institution. Primarily a place
where you come for good food, a creek side setting with romance galore! The Wednesday
night wine tastings from 5-8pm, which include perfectly paired hors d'oeuvre's.
Often there are great discounts on featured vintner's bottles.

At the end of the Capitola Wharf, live music on the top deck during Summer. Not known for food.
However seafood is fresh. Nightly bar crowd usually older.A nice walk and
good place to view the shore line of Capitola Village.
Zelda's

A beach front deck overlooking Capitola beach with live music outside in the summer, and moves inside
when weather turns cold. Bar & food. DJs are the norm for Friday nights and Saturdays usually
have a live band. Food prices are considered steep for what they offer.

Surfing Options in and around Capitola
Capitola Beach is considered a great place learn to surf, and one of the very safest places. With
usual gentle wave action. Many use of long boards when waves conditions are permissible. And
the famous spot called 'The Hook' is located along Pleasure Point, located at the end of
the stairway located at 41st Avenue a 15 minute walk from Capitola. It is longboard
surf area primarily, and shortboards are used only when the waves are higher. It
is a spot considered best for skilled surfers. Closer to Capitola is 30th Ave
and East but few people are permitted to surf in the area due to its
difficulty. Do not over estimate your ability. If you are not
sure of your ability stick to Capitola Beach and you will
learn faster and have a fun, safe experience.
